Cana’s Voice – This Changes Everything | Christian Music Review

The sophomore album from Cana’s Voice just released a few days ago, so it seemed like a great time to finally take a look at their debut album, This Changes Everything!

Cana’s Voice is what I would consider to be a “super group” – each of its members have spent time as part of other successful groups, and are already well-known in the Christian music community. This trio is comprised of TaRanda Greene (The Greenes), Doug Anderson (Ernie Haase & Signature Sound) and Jody McBrayer (Avalon).

Their debut album, This Changes Everything, is an eclectic mix of Southern Gospel, CCM/Pop, and Gospel, but amazingly, nothing ever feels out of place as they move seamlessly from one song to the next. If I had to choose one category to place the album in, I would say that it *leans* Southern Gospel. But honestly, there is something here for just about everyone to enjoy.

Many of the tracks have been recorded previously by other artists, but the arrangements and production keep things fresh – if you didn’t know the songs beforehand, you’d probably assume they were original to this group.

“I Give It To You” is my personal favorite, and one of the few original songs on this project. This song talks about giving every part of our lives to God – both the good and bad. Both fear and hope, joy and pain. He can redeem all of those things and use them for His glory, but we must give them over to Him first. It’s a message I need to hear often, and I know others do, as well. Pair that with a fun, pop/folk track (in the same vein as “Greater” by MercyMe or “Home” by Phillip Phillips), and you’ve got one of this album’s stand-out moments.

Where Cana’s Voice shines the brightest, however, is moments when they can just let their amazing vocal talent soar. Perhaps the best examples of this are “I Won’t Go Back” and “Jesus Never Fails.” Backed by a full choir and orchestra, these three proclaim timeless truths with passion and precision in a way few artists today can match.

Thematically, this project is tightly woven together. Most of the songs contain lyrics that focus on the faithfulness of God, and how He walks with us through the storms of life. Listening back through the album again before writing this review, I was encouraged, challenged, and even brought to tears by the message it contains, just as much now as I was three years ago when it released. I’m so thankful that we serve a God who never leaves and never fails, no matter where we find ourselves in this life. Cana’s Voice does an excellent job of presenting that truth on every track of this album.

IF YOU CAN ONLY DOWNLOAD ONE, MAKE IT: “I Give It To You” or “Jesus Never Fails”

IF YOU HAVE TO SKIP ONE, MAKE IT: “Hello Fear” (Great lyrics, but this is the one track that feels like it doesn’t mesh with the others quite as well.)

RECOMMENDED? Yes! There is something here for just about everyone. If you’re a fan of TaRanda, Doug or Jody’s previous work, you definitely need to check this one out.
